The ART of YACHT BUILDING
Holland is known for its history of art, design, and superb craftsmanship, naming some of the world’s greatest artists off the top of your head, you’re likely to come up with many of the Dutch masters including Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh. AMELS has the largest superyacht facility in the Netherlands, building at present no less than nine luxury yachts in Vlissingen – six new builds and three refit projects. The AMELS yard in Vlissingen has a shipbuilding heritage stretching back over 100-years,ideally located on the North Sea – For centuries the center of maritime excellence in the Netherlands. Significantly, all five Limited Edition AMELS design models are currently in production, including the 83-metre AMELS 272, the largest yacht AMELS has ever built.
With such notable designers for Interior – Nuvolari & Lenard, and Exteriors by Tim Heywood, the understanding in the yacht business is that this yard is the “Art of Yacht Building.” The AMELS 60-metre in the Limited Edition Series:
AMELS 60 mt Limited Edition:
AMELS is entirely committed to the excellence of the AMELS Limited Edition Range of yacht construction and the benefits of the personal creative concept that it gives to the owners. Hence the predecessor of the new shipyard direction, crafted and conceived from the quality developed and matured craftsmanship developed over the course of the Limited Edition series, comes a new additional shipyard direction.
Now, as a result and from that ten year maturity and growth by and through the success of the Limited Edition Range and through new and returning customer demand, AMELS recently revealing the next phase in its growth – AMELS Full Custom. The Dutch luxury yacht builder will build one-of creations in the 80 to 110-metre segment, alongside the already successful AMELS Limited Editions range and AMELS Refit division. As Managing Director Rob Luijendijk makes clear, full custom yacht building is a natural step forward for this yard.
It stands to reason why AMELS is taking this step into full custom, taking from their repeat clients in recent years, there’s been a market shift towards larger yachts and in the top segment of that market what is really being talked about is of course, full custom. If you look at 80-metre plus yachts, they are complex constructions. There aren’t many yards that can build at that level and deliver the highest quality at the same time. At AMELS they’re proving their capability with each design model, such as with the 83-metre project building now.
At the same time, the success of the Limited Editions concept that was introduced 10 years ago means they have a very strong basis for further growth with ongoing sales, repeat customers, and a horizon of client base and strong acceptance in the market arena. So it’s a very organic process that has lead to this next step for AMELS. Better to come from a position of strength with strong financial backing and foundation from a successful sales campaign 10-years running, with very pleased and happy customers, to move into a new phase of full custom build in the future for this accomplished yard of distinction.
The largest of the new AMELS creations is the 272-metre 5-deck Motoryacht that is hearlded to be what this yard is heading toward in their evolutional spririt of modern shipbuilding technological advances:
The LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 272 is the largest yacht ever conceived by AMELS. Her sleek curves and elongated deck spaces are classic Tim Heywood, the British maestro taking full advantage of the 83-metre hull form to disguise a large-volume yacht of 2,827 gross tonnes in a very streamlined profile. With five accommodations decks in total, the dedicated owner’s deck is an impressive 43 metres long with 300 square metres of luxury space. Follow the construction of the first AMELS 272
